How do you deal with growing wiser and finding misogyny in music you love? It's so sad. Also, do you have any suggestions in good music to listen that isn't by white guys because literally the vast majority of my music is by white guys. When ever I find a girl in a band she's usually white and usually lead singer and the only girl. Ahhh. Also I feel like the never write the music they just sing@Anonymous
i think its really hard to find that things u love are problematic but u can like things that are problematic!!! as long as u recognise they are and talk about it and stuff but yeah it;s a lot harder to like something once u see the hidden misogyny/racism etc. i think that i just tried to separate myself from that but that was about 2 years ago and what that meant for me was cutting out pop which was ridiculous!!! because pop is great and there is a lot of pop music which isnt problematic. theres also a lot indie/rock that’s vv misogynistic too which people seem to overlook in rock music as opposed to rap music i wonder why?!?!?!?!? (jokes we obv all know why). ok like warpaint are a girl band who almost definitely writes their own music and they are cool also savages are another awesome girl band v loud and angry which is always fun. waxahatchee is really good and also laura marling is like one of my all time favs shes amazing her first album came out when she was 18 and now she 4 out n shes only 23 or something crazy like that??? but yeah shes great. more music that isnt white guys: Outkast, blood orange, st vincent, marvin gaye, the ronettes, joni mitchell, amy winehouse, wu-tang clan, a tribe called quest, hole, tv on the radio, sly and the family stone, missy elliott, billie holiday, tlc, MIA, ravi shankar, kanye west, janelle monae, beyonce (obv), solange (pbv again), angel olsen, best coast, chance the rapper, haim, bat for lashes, kendrick lamar, cat power, katy b, bleached, angel haze, courtney barnett, deap vally, radkey, girls aloud, sugababes, stooshe, little mix, destiny’s child, salt n pepa, frank ocean, grimes, jessie ware, lianne la havas…. any other suggestions from people?
